I have to admit straight away that I am in love with this organization! They had me at the door! Any group willing to completely devote themselves to the advancement of Judaism, the happiness of others and the future of an old NYC synagogue is my kind of group.
Just to give you a tad of info, JGrads, is a classic Chabad group with a unique twist, they aren’t attached to just one school or area, they work with many of the graduate school populations of Manhattan. They have Jewish learning, events and outreach programs to help bring together the young people in graduate school under the umbrella of Judaism. The directors, Rabbi Chezky Wolff and is wife Perry took over a 100 year old synagogue next to the famed Chelsea Hotel on west 23rd street. The Synagogue literally needs a complete gut renovation and restoration- there isn’t anything that isn’t chipping, broken or thread bare. And for that type of job you need A LOT of money- millions and millions of dollars.
I nearly begged them to hire me to work on their first benefit! I was so impressed with their mission and dream- I worked with them to define the event, invent some new ways to help people get involved and decorate (a task of epic proportions) all on a shoe string budget. And I mean shoe sting, here is how it turned out!
Guests were greeted and invited into the synagogue under a warm cozy tent
Catering was done by Jacob at Heavenly Events, it was plentiful and beautiful!
As you can see this building is in dire need of love and attention! A few candles didn’t hide much!
Once dinner was complete the guests were invited into the sanctuary for a honoree program. They honored many amazing a deserving members of the synagogue as well as pillars of the New York legal and fashion community, including Arthur Miller and Deborah Sturman and Walter Baker.
After a moving program everyone returned to the party room for dessert and one more cocktail! Yum!
Thank you to Nicole and her crew from NY Lounge Decor for nearly moving mountains for me. Meir Pliskin for his beautiful photographs! Ashlie Yair for her amazing graphic design skills (and patience!) Jacob for his yummy food! And the outstanding team from Yvideo for their completely transformative lighting skills!
I am so proud to help this young couple realize their dreams. Thank you to Chezky and Perry for their trust and faith in my concepts and plans.
